I have always loved going to museums as a kid and love it, still! I could spend entire afternoons exploring the artifacts and learning a bit about our history. So when I heard about the Gibson House Museum located near Yonge Street and Park Home Ave in North York, I wanted to learn more! I love touring historic houses and learning about the lives of the residents – so why not spend a day exploring the Gibson House?!

The Gibson House is the former home of David Gibson, a land surveyor who helped map early Toronto. A Scottish immigrant, land surveyor, farmer, politician and rebel – the museum gives the visitor a glimpse into rural life in the 1850s! There’s a ton to learn about the family and the Rebellion of 1837 so I won’t spoil too much here!

The museum offers a guided tour through the house and the interpreters are dressed in costume, which I thought was very cool! The tours last about 45 minutes depending on how many questions you may have for the tour guide. There’s also a neat exhibit and a kids area while you wait for a tour. I spent about two hours there so I definitely think it’s worth the low admission price of $8!
I was told there are events throughout the year such as cooking classes using the period appliances and cookware so I will definitely be back! I highly recommend checking this place out if you are ever in the area!
Until next time, my friends!
Stay warm,
– M
