Exploring Calgary: Part 1

I love travelling and exploring. You probably gathered that from my blog posts, haha! Most of my exploring these days have been in the 6ix aka Toronto. So when my boyfriend invited me on a trip to Calgary, I said, “Why not?!” I have been to Calgary before but that was with a tour group and was so rushed, I honestly don’t remember much. Sorry Calgary!

One of the coolest attractions was my visit to the Glenbow Museum in downtown Calgary. If you’re interested in art and history, I HIGHLY recommend this place to visit! The museum is HUGE and consists of four floors – plan to be there for at least half a day or a whole day if you’re like me and love to learn and study every object there (is that even possible?!)

One of my favourite parts of the museum was the train in the history of the railway exhibit. It was really interesting to see what the cabins were like and the sleeping arrangements that were available on the train. As you can see in the photo to the left, there is a bed, a chair and a sink – looks really cozy doesn’t it?

One of the things I really appreciated about the Glenbow Museum is that the perspective of First Nations People are always taken into account when presenting the story behind the artifacts and the exhibits. It was the first time encountering this experience and I wish the First Nations perspectives were presented more often in Toronto and nearby museums. Maybe it has changed since I have been to the museums here but it wasn’t like before. Kudos to Glenbow!

I had a ton of fun exploring this museum and would definitely go back if I’m ever in the Calgary area. I went during the week day and it was pretty quiet just the way I like it. That way, I can spend as much time studying an exhibit as I want. The Christian Dior exhibit was the busiest one and I can see why! The dresses were gorgeous!

Will you be checking the museum soon? Have you been there before? Let me know what you thought of it! I’d love to hear about your experience. Are there other attractions in Calgary you think is a must-see?

In my next post, I’ll talk about the next adventure in Calgary – Night at the TELUS Spark Science Centre! Until next time!
